Why Turtles?

We chose a turtle because it symbolises so much of what we value. Beyond the saying “slow and steady wins the race” the turtle also represents strength, knowledge, wisdom, time or timeless, protection, peace. Turtles roam the vast oceans and yet their internal compass always knows where their birthplace was. In several cultural legends turtles are depicted carrying the world on their backs.

As educators we hope that our legacy isn’t determined by power, wealth, or fame. Instead we are working toward engaging, educating, empowering other teachers and youth. To impart understanding and wisdom. To teach timeless concepts that can be applied broadly to various aspects of children’s lives. To teach peace and stewardship of our Earth, animals, and our neighbors both near and far. To explore and discover while developing core values, attitudes, and self-worth.

Finally we chose turtles to capture our essence because they can live a remarkably long time and we believe that our legacy to education will reach beyond our own lifetimes. Carried by our mascot, the turtle.
